Chicken Manure Fermentation Guide: Trough Compost Turner Helps Create Organic Fertilizer

Chicken farming produces tens of millions of tons of chicken manure annually, which can easily pollute the environment if not properly handled. As an organic fertilizer equipment manufacturer, our trough-type compost turner, with its core advantages of efficient turning and precise temperature control, has become a key piece of equipment for chicken manure fermentation, efficiently transforming “manure waste” into high-quality organic fertilizer.

I. Core Process of Chicken Manure Fermentation into Fertilizer
1. Raw Material Ratio: Chicken manure (65%) + straw/sawdust (35%), with a carbon-to-nitrogen ratio precisely adjusted to 25:1 (calibrated using a testing instrument), moisture content controlled at 55% (slightly damp when squeezed between fingers, not dripping, crumbles easily upon impact), adding 1-2 kg of composting bacteria per ton of raw material to accelerate fermentation.
2. Composting and Piling: Evenly fill the fermentation trough with the mixed raw materials, piling to a height of 1.2-1.5 meters. Lay a 10cm thick layer of straw at the bottom to enhance aeration. The bacteria should be mixed evenly with the top 10cm of material before covering, avoiding direct sunlight.
3. Turning and Fermentation: The trough-type compost turner turns the compost once daily at a depth of 1.5 meters. The toothed structure can break up clumps larger than 5cm in diameter. Turning ensures thorough exchange between the upper and lower layers of material, preventing localized anaerobic digestion and stabilizing the pile temperature at 55-65℃ (maintaining this temperature for at least 3 days completely kills E. coli and parasite eggs).
4. Composting and Discharge: After 7-10 days, the material turns dark brown, has no ammonia odor, and has a slightly earthy smell. Cool it to 25℃ before discharging. Before discharging, sample the pH value (6.5-7.5 is acceptable). It can then be processed into granular fertilizer or sold directly in bulk.

II. Key Precautions
– Raw Material Control: Remove stones and feathers from chicken manure and test for heavy metals. Additives are essential to prevent material caking and anaerobic digestion.
– Parameter Monitoring: Increase the frequency of turning when the pile temperature is below 50℃; add a small amount of water to cool it when the temperature is above 70℃; add water promptly when the moisture content is below 50%.
– Equipment Operation: The compost turner moves at a constant speed along the trough, maintaining a distance of 5-10mm between the blades and the bottom of the trough; clean the blade residue weekly.
– Environmental Protection: An ammonia collection device is installed in the fermentation area; the finished product is stored in a rainproof warehouse to prevent moisture absorption and spoilage.

III. Value and Equipment Advantages
The finished organic fertilizer has a nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium content of over 4% and an organic matter content of ≥45%, meeting the NY525-2021 national standard. It is suitable for fruits and vegetables, field crops, and greenhouses, improving soil compaction and enhancing crop quality. Each ton is valued at 300-800 yuan. Our trough-type compost turner is hydraulically driven, with blades made of wear-resistant alloy steel. A single trough can process 50-200 tons per day, increasing efficiency by 50 times compared to manual labor, with energy consumption as low as 0.3 kWh/ton. It is also equipped with an intelligent temperature control system that automatically adjusts the turning frequency according to the pile temperature. This equipment is not only suitable for large-scale chicken farms, but small cooperatives can also customize the tank size as needed, which is in line with the national policy of “manure resource utilization”. In some areas, users can also enjoy agricultural machinery subsidies, making chicken manure treatment both environmentally friendly and profitable, truly realizing “turning waste into treasure”.
